Nickel alloys for oil and gas
Sour gas, chloride-bearing produced water and high-pressure tubing are three different corrosion problems, and they are routinely asked to be solved by one material.
All 14 grades on this page are melted, forged and tested at our own plant in Shanghai and released with EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 documentation. Chemistry, mechanical results and the heat number travel with the material.
Three mechanisms that decide the grade
Not a materials handbook — just the three things that most often change the answer on a real enquiry.
H2S with water
Wet hydrogen sulphide is not a general-corrosion problem, it is a cracking problem. The failure starts at a hardness spike in a weld heat-affected zone or a cold-worked thread, not where the wall is thinnest. That is why sour-service specifications control hardness and heat-treatment condition rather than only alloy content.
Chlorides with oxygen and temperature
Produced water and cooling systems carry chlorides. Below about 60 °C an austenitic stainless can hold up for years; above it, chloride stress-corrosion cracking becomes the governing risk, and the answer is usually to move to a higher-nickel or duplex grade rather than to add molybdenum.
CO2 partial pressure
Carbon dioxide in the presence of water gives wall-loss corrosion whose rate is driven by partial pressure and temperature. This is the one case where a low-alloy or 13Cr material often wins on cost, and where quoting the most corrosion-resistant alloy is the wrong answer commercially.

Three things to put on the enquiry
- State the hardness ceiling, if there is one. — If your specification caps hardness for sour service, put the number on the enquiry. Condition and heat treatment change the answer, and a solution-annealed bar and an aged bar are not interchangeable for that duty.
- A UNS number is not a delivery condition. — N07718 tells us the chemistry window. It does not tell us whether you need annealed or aged, or which mechanical test direction applies. Both belong on the purchase order.
- Name the form, because the standard changes with it. — Bar, seamless tube and forgings for the same grade sit under different ASTM product standards. Quoting the wrong one is the most common reason a delivery is rejected at goods-in.
Oil and gas: questions buyers ask
The answers below are drawn from the same grade data as the tables above.
Which grades does Hangbo supply for oil and gas?
The grades on this page are the ones our grade data lists for oil and gas, petrochemical and refinery duty: Inconel 690, 617 and 602CA, Hastelloy G3, Monel 400, R-405, K-500 and 404, 904L, 321, 630 / 17-4PH, 631 / 17-7PH, XM-19 and SMO 254. All are supplied as bar, plate, strip, seamless tube, forgings or wire.
Can you supply against a sour-service specification?
We quote against the specification you name, including hardness limits, heat-treatment condition and test requirements. If your order adds a sour-service standard on top of the material standard, name it on the enquiry and we will confirm in writing what the heat can meet before you place the order.
What documentation comes with the material?
EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 with chemistry, mechanical results and heat-number traceability, and inspection by SGS, BV, Intertek or your own inspector before shipment.
Send the grade, the size, the quantity.
We will quote against your specification, including lead time, inspection level and documents.
