Nickel alloys for power generation
Efficiency targets push steam temperature up, and every hundred degrees changes which alloy is adequate. That is why this market buys on creep data, not on corrosion resistance alone.
All 18 grades on this page are melted, forged and tested at our own plant in Shanghai and released with EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 documentation. Chemistry, mechanical results and the heat number travel with the material.
Three mechanisms that decide the grade
Not a materials handbook — just the three things that most often change the answer on a real enquiry.
Superheater and reheater tubing
Above roughly 600 °C steam, ferritic and 300-series tube reaches its limit on creep strength. Inconel 617, 625 and 690 are the grades that take over, chosen on stress-rupture data at the design wall thickness rather than on a generic maximum temperature.
Furnace rolls, retorts and supports
Inconel 602CA earns its place where oxidation resistance and creep strength have to hold simultaneously, which is exactly the furnace-roll duty. It is also one of the grades most often specified by a fabricator rather than by a mill.
Flue gas desulphurisation
The wet end of an FGD scrubber is a chloride- and fluoride-bearing acid environment at moderate temperature, which is Hastelloy C276 duty. Ducting and stack liners usually follow the absorber.
18 grades we melt for Power generation
Each one links to its specification page, with chemistry, standards by product form and the EN 10204 documents we issue. Showing 12 of 18.
Inconel 617
Excellent resistance to oxidation and carburization at temperatures up to 1100°C.
Inconel 625
Inconel 625 exhibits strong resistance to various corrosive media, including seawater, acidic solutions, and alkaline environments.
Inconel 602CA
Exceptional oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 1250°C, making it suitable for continuous service in high-heat environments.
Inconel 690
Excellent resistance to oxidation and sulfidation at high temperatures, ideal for use in extreme heat environments.
Hastelloy C276
Nimonic 80A
Holds load to about 815 °C, which is why it stayed the exhaust valve standard for decades.
310
Excels in oxidation resistance in air at temperatures up to 1200°C (higher than 310S’s typical 1150°C).
310S
Excels in oxidation resistance in air at temperatures up to 1150°C.
Inconel 601
Exceptional oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 1200°C; resistant to spalling, which is beneficial during thermal cycling.
Inconel X-750
INCONEL X-750 maintains its strength and stability in high-temperature environments, withstanding up to 704°C, which makes it ideal…
Inconel 718
INCONEL 718 has excellent mechanical properties, including high tensile, creep, and rupture strength, maintained up to 700°C.
Hastelloy G3
Excels in both oxidizing (e.g., nitric acid, hypochlorite solutions) and reducing (e.g., sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid) environme…
Three things to put on the enquiry
- Design temperature has to come with the stress. — A maximum service temperature on its own does not tell us whether a grade will work. The stress-rupture curve at your wall thickness and design life is what decides it.
- Dissimilar joints need the filler named. — Where a nickel alloy tube joins a ferritic header, the weld consumable and the PWHT decision change the risk profile. Tell us the joint design if the tube is going into a boiler.
- Tube, header and internal parts are often three materials. — Quoting one grade for the whole scope is how a boiler ends up with an over-specified drum or an under-specified superheater.
Power generation: questions buyers ask
The answers below are drawn from the same grade data as the tables above.
Which grades do you supply for power generation?
Inconel 601, 690, 602CA, 617, 718 and X-750, Hastelloy G3 and C276, 310 and 310S, 904L, 321, and the Nimonic grades 80A, 90, 95, 105 and 115.
Can you supply superheater tubing in 617 or 625?
Yes, as seamless tube against the tube standard named on your specification, with EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 documentation and third-party inspection if required.
Do you supply FGD scrubber material?
Hastelloy C276 plate, strip and wire are supplied for wet scrubber, ducting and stack liner work. The grade is quoted against the plate or sheet standard on your order.
Send the grade, the size, the quantity.
We will quote against your specification, including lead time, inspection level and documents.
