Hastelloy B2
HASTELLOY B-2 (UNS N10665) is the nickel-molybdenum alloy B-3 replaced. It gives the same excellent resistance to hydrochloric acid and other reducing media, and it is still specified on a great many existing drawings and repair jobs. Its limitation is metallurgical rather than corrosive: the alloy can order and embrittle in the 650 – 870 °C range, including in the heat-affected zone of a weld, so B-3 is the safer choice for new fabrication.

Behaviour that matters in service
- Hydrochloric acid — Resists HCl across the full concentration and temperature range, the same duty B-3 covers.
- Ordering and embrittlement — Prolonged exposure to 650 – 870 °C, or a slow cool through that band, can precipitate Ni4Mo and leave the alloy brittle. Where that is unavoidable, B-3 is the correct substitution.
- Oxidising media — Like B-3 it has no chromium reserve, so oxidising acids and aerated solutions are outside its range whatever the concentration.
Typical applications
- Chemical Processing — Vessels and piping in hydrochloric and sulphuric acid service.
- Existing Plant — Repair and replacement against drawings that already call for B-2.
- Vacuum and Reducing Atmospheres — Equipment that must stay inert to reducing process gases.

Hastelloy B2: specification and supply
The answers below are the same facts printed in the tables above. If your question is not here, send it and an engineer will answer it.
What is Hastelloy B2?
HASTELLOY B-2 (UNS N10665) is the nickel-molybdenum alloy B-3 replaced. It gives the same excellent resistance to hydrochloric acid and other reducing media, and it is still specified on a great many existing drawings and repair jobs.
What is Hastelloy B2 equivalent to?
Hastelloy B2 is listed as USA UNS N10665; Europe DIN 2.4615. A designation equivalent identifies the same alloy family across standards; the chemistry and mechanical limits printed on your purchase order still govern acceptance.
What forms can Hangbo supply Hastelloy B2 in?
Plate and round bar; other forms on request. We quote against your drawing and can peel, cut or machine to size.
Which standards is Hastelloy B2 certified to?
Routinely certified: Plates: ASTM B333; Round Bars: ASTM B335. The edition named on your purchase order governs.
What documents come with Hastelloy B2?
EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 carrying chemistry, mechanical results and heat-number traceability. SGS, BV, Intertek or your own inspector can witness testing before shipment.
