Hastelloy C22
HASTELLOY C-22 (UNS N06022) is the nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten grade that sits above C-276 in oxidising chloride duty. It carries 20 – 22 % chromium against roughly 16 % in C-276, and that reserve is what buys the better pitting and crevice resistance in chlorinated, aerated and mixed-acid service, together with resistance to stress-corrosion cracking in chloride solutions.

Behaviour that matters in service
- More chromium than C-276 — 20 – 22 % Cr against about 16 % gives a thicker, more stable passive film, which shows up as higher critical pitting and crevice temperatures in chloride service.
- Both acid families — The molybdenum covers reducing acids and the chromium covers oxidising ones, so mixed-acid streams that would defeat either a molybdenum-only or a chromium-only alloy are workable.
- Chloride stress corrosion — Resists chloride-induced stress-corrosion cracking, which the austenitic stainless grades do not manage above roughly 60 °C.
